Since 2021, we have saved over 25 tonnes of books from going into landfill.

It doesn’t sound like much, but we are just getting started.

We have a big vision!

The Dream

Save Our Books Australia is committed to rescuing books from landfill and recycling services which result in eventual landfill. We dream to see a circular economy across Australia where books are redistributed to new readers.

It’s time to end ‘Fast Reading’.

We want to play our part in doing away with ‘Fast Reading’. This is the practice of where once a book is read, it is discarded into landfill. We support used books going to op shops, libraries, book shops and new reader’s homes instead.

Funding keeps us going.

A portion of the books that we receive are sold to keep funding the service in and around Adelaide and the greater region. The money from book sales funds our courier drivers for the free book removal in and other costs associated.

Our Partners

We are partnered with RSPCA, Save the Children, Lutheran Care, other independent op shops across Adelaide. We support any residential homes in clearing out their book collections.

Planning a Sustainable Future

We continue to improve the model of delivering our books declutter service for a sustainable future. We aim to use technology to be on the cutting edge of re-using books.

The (Final) Good News.

Any books that are damaged beyond what we can redistribute or sell, are sent to a facility that shreds the paper into fibres, which are then made into cat litter. Although cat litter has only one use, it is compostable and will naturally break down bringing nutrients to soil/gardens.
